When Ryleigh Jane was planning her birthday party, she decided she wanted her friends to bring teddy bears as gifts for a local charity. The idea was created when mom and dad had a meeting at Kid’s Hub Child Advocacy Center, and they didn’t have a babysitter.
“She got a tour of the facility while we were in the meeting,” said Janice Touchstone, mom. “When we left, she kept talking about the teddy bear room and how good it was for scared or sad kids.”
The teddy bear room is an area that houses new stuffed animals donated to the center for every child who enters the building.
“We serve children involved in allegations of abuse by providing them a place to be heard, supported and protected,” said DiDi Ellis, Kids Hub Director. “During out time with children, we often hear many horrific stories, so in an effort to comfort the child before their time at our is over, we let them pick out their own stuffed animal to take home.”
“I wanted to give teddy bears to Kids Hub for the teddy bear room,” said Ryleigh Jane.
That was exactly what happened. Ryleigh Jane celebrated her birthday eating at one of her favorite restaurants where her friends joined her, each toting a teddy bear they picked out. She even had a teddy bear drawn on her cookie cake and teddy bear rings on her cupcakes! Because of her thoughtful party, Ryleigh Jane was able to drop off two large trash bags of bears for other children.
