What is Kids Hub?
Kids Hub Child Advocacy Center is a non-profit organization that works at the request of child protective services and law enforcement. Kids Hub's mission is to provide a child-friendly location where children and families can feel heard, supported, protected and comforted.
Why was my child referred for a forensic interview?
There has been a report made to child protective services and/or law enforcement and they are requesting our services.
What is a forensic interview?
A forensic interview is a neutral, information gathering interaction conducted by a specially trained interviewer. Forensic Interviewers are trained in a Child First protocol that provides your child with a neutral and safe space to share anything they may or may not have experienced and/or witnessed.
What are the benefits of a forensic interview?
The forensic interview is video and audio recorded with live observation for child protective services and law enforcement to minimize the number of times a child is interviewed.
Will someone be contacting me before the appointment?
Yes. Your Family and Victim Advocate will contact you prior to your appointment to assess your needs and to answer any questions you might have.
What can we expect the day of the appointment?
At Kids Hub, you can expect to be welcomed into a safe and child-friendly environment. Families will wait in a private waiting room where there will be a TV, toys and snacks.
Can I observe the forensic interview?
During the interview, the Family Advocate along with child protective services and/or law enforcement will observe the interview through a recording software. Caregivers are not allowed in the observation room to ensure the child’s comfort and integrity of their statement.
What happens after the forensic interview?
After the interview, the Family Advocate, child protective services and/or law enforcement will discuss next steps WITH THE CAREGIVER, where resources will be provided and any questions will be answered.
What can I expect from Kids Hub in the following weeks after the appointment?
Your Family Advocate will check-in with you about any referrals that were made and to get an update on how you and your family are doing since your appointment.
